Enjoy your own hog roast at home!

On many occasions, we've cooked this pork shoulder recipe in a slow cooker - which makes the pork moist, tender and full of flavour.

We were given a slow cooker as a wedding present by our friend's Andrew and Joanne way back in 1998.

Although well used, our slow cooker is still going strong in 2020 and has provided us with many a delicious meal over the years.

“[cooking] pork shoulder in a slow cooker . . . makes the pork moist, tender and full of flavour."

Ingredients:

  • 2 onions, sliced

  • 1.5 kg / 3 lb 5 oz boned and rolled pork shoulder

  • 2 tbsp demerara sugar

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp American mustard

  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup

  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar

  • salt and pepper

  • hamburger buns or ciabatta rolls, to serve

Serves: 4

Method:

1. Put the onions in the slow cooker and place the pork on top. Mix the sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, ketchup and vinegar together and spread all over the surface of the pork. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover and cook on low on 8 hours.

2. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and use two forks to pull it apart into shreds.

3. Skim any excess fat from the juices and stir a little juice into the pork. Serve in hamburger buns, with the remaining juices for spooning over.

Serve and enjoy!
